How has your summer been so far?
My summer has been great. I’ve been training every day, spending time with my family, and getting ready for this new opportunity. I’m excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to get to Finland.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is D’Maurian Williams. I’m from Phoenix, Arizona, and I played college basketball at Gardner-Webb, Texas Tech, and High Point University. I love competing, working hard, and I’m always looking for ways to improve both on and off the court.
When did you start playing basketball?
I started playing basketball when I was around five years old. Ever since then, it’s been a huge part of my life.
Who is your idol?
I’d say my mom. She’s always worked hard and made sacrifices for me, and she’s inspired me to keep pushing through every challenge.
First year in Europe, what are your expectations?
I’m looking forward to experiencing a new style of basketball and a new culture. My goal is to help the team win as many games as possible, continue developing my game, and make a positive impact every night.
You had an impressive college career. What was the biggest lesson you learned?
The biggest lesson I learned is that consistency is everything. Talent can take you far, but your daily habits, discipline, and mindset are what separate good players from great ones.
How did you hear about Lahti Basketball?
My agent told me about the opportunity, and after learning more about the club and speaking with the coaching staff, I felt it was a great fit.
Why did you choose Lahti Basketball?
I chose Lahti because I believed it was the best place to start my professional career. I felt the organization believed in me, and I think it’s a great environment where I can help the team and continue growing as a player.
You were roommates with Devion Harmon at Texas Tech. He was unstoppable here last season, but who wins one-on-one between you and him?
Devion is a great player, and he had an amazing season. But if we’re playing one-on-one, I’m taking myself every time. I know he’d probably say the same thing!
What kind of player is Lahti Basketball getting by signing you?
They’re getting a player who competes every possession, plays hard, and wants to win. I can score, defend, make plays for my teammates, and I’ll do whatever the team needs to be successful.
If you have to name one player who your game reminds you of, who would that be?
I’d say a mix of Mikal Bridges and Norman Powell. I like being efficient, defending multiple positions, and scoring in different ways.
Your all-time starting five?
Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, and Shaquille O’Neal.
Do you know anything about your new hometown, Lahti?
I’ve learned that Lahti is known for its beautiful nature and winter sports. I’m excited to experience the city, meet the fans, and learn more about Finland.
